약 1천300만 년 전 남미 북부의 열대 습지와 강을 누비던 승용차 크기의 초대형 고대 거북 화석들이 새로 발굴돼 학계에 보고됐습니다.
'엄청나게 큰 거북'이라는 뜻으로 '스투펜데미스 게오그라피쿠스'(stupendemys geographicus)라는 학명이 붙은 이 거북은
몸길이가 4m에 달하고몸무게는 1.25t에 달하는 것으로 분석됐습니다.
